New Semester Begins!

Winter session has started with many exciting classes running in the print shop!

On the print faculty front, we would like to formally welcome Andrew Campbell, Heather Bella and Lloyd Patterson. Andrew has been one of our monitors for a while and is great. He will take over the Saturday session of First-Time Screen. Heather has been teaching First-Time Book and Alternative Book already. She will also teach the beginning Letterpress class on Wednesday nights. Lloyd will be taking over the Sunday monitor duties and offering a class in the spring session. Stop by their classes and say hi if you would like.

We would also like to welcome our new Resident Artist in Printmaking, Ian Weaver. You can see some of his work up in Print A. Ian will be starting his residency January 20th and will be with us for the next six months. Please attend the Lillstreet Artist–in–Residence Meet and Greet January 21. There you can meet Ian and the other 9 resident artists starting at Lillstreet this calendar year.

Projects with Hummingbird Press Editions are also humming! Tom is working on new prints with Richard Hunt, Candida Alvarez and Kerry James Marshall.  Kerry’s print looks awesome and we will have an exhibition of the Kerry print sometime after completion.

The new Open Studio schedule will be posted by the end of the week and we need stuff for the printmaking blog. If you are doing great stuff with your work including shows, workshops, residencies or whatever we would like to know. Also throw us links to your websites if you have one.

Happy New Year and don't forget to print juicy.

...and a panel discussion at DePaul:

Printmaker as Distributor, Collaborator, and Facilitator
October 7, 6-7:30pm
DePaul University Museum
2350 N. Kenmore Ave

How does the history of print as a medium for the dissemination of information affect the role of contemporary printmakers? Does this draw more educators to the medium? How does the communal print studio affect the nature of artwork being created? Does the emphasis on technique, craft, and tools create an environment welcoming to new students or restricted?

Printmaker as Distributor, Collaborator, and Facilitator will explore the role of education within contemporary printmaking. Panelists will include Wrik Repasky, Coordinator of Printmaking at Harold Washington, Tom Lucas, Director of the Printmaking Department at Lill Street Art Center, and CJ Mace, MFA student through Columbia College Book and Paper program. The panel will be moderated by Angee Lennard, founder and director of Spudnik Press Cooperative.

It would be great to see you at either event if you're able to come!
See side panel for more info...
